The chestnut festival in Collobrières is one of the most enchanting festivals I’ve ever been to in France and so I was delighted to write about it for The Guardian in September 2021.
While chi-chi Saint-Tropez is just an hour away, much of the Var is laid-back, leafy and remote. Collobrières is tucked away in The Massif des Maures mountains that back on to the Côte d’Azur. These quiet hills covered in dense cork oak and chestnut forests and were recently ravaged by fires, Collobrières was spared, thankfully, and the festival went ahead after a break in 2020.
