In 2004, I won the Metro staff scholarship fund and used the money to visit Zambia with a charity, Families for Children Zambia (now closed). Following the trip I wrote a series of vignettes about life there that ran in Metro’s news section in the week the G8 Summit took place in Gleneagles, Scotland.
