I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some really wonderful hotels in France, and for this piece in The Times I chose 20 of the most romantic hotels in Paris. My personal favourite? L’Hotel (pictured), where – in 1899 when it was a rather less fashionable address – Oscar Wilde died (shortly after declaring “This wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. Either it goes or I do”). Their amazing Room 16 has been decorated by Jacques Garcia and the wallpaper is now most certainly worth living for.
